December 5, 2018 Update

The new Full Time Collective Agreement is in effect. Benefits changes take effect immediately except where a specific date is identified in the Memorandum of Agreement. Retroactive pay will be paid within 90 days of the ratification.

November 23, 2018 Update

The full time membership has voted 86% in favour of ratification. Details to follow.

November 8, 2018 Update

A ratification meeting is scheduled for Thursday November 22 at 5pm at UNIFOR 222 located at 1425 Philip Murray Ave in Oshawa.

November 7, 2018 Update

October 29, 2018 Update

The town and union bargaining committees met with a conciliator on Oct 23 and had further negotiations on Oct 24. More updates to follow once available.

October 4, 2018 Update

The results of the October 4th 2018 strike vote are 97% in favour of a strike. The Bargaining Committee thanks you for your support.

September 24, 2018 Update

CUPE 53 is continuing to meet with the employer in hopes of reaching a negotiated settlement. A special membership meeting is being held on Thurs. Oct 4, 2018 at 5pm at 1551 Stevenson Rd. N., Oshawa (General Sikorski hall) for a STRIKE vote to proceed with job action if necessary

April 16, 2018 Update

Additional negotiation dates have been scheduled for the end of May.

March 7, 2018 Update

Additional negotiation dates have been scheduled for early March.

January 16, 2018 Update

Negotiations have been scheduled for January 26, 29, 30 and 31, 2018. Proposals will be exchanged in advance.

April 20, 2017 Update

The CUPE Local 53 Full-time Collective Agreement expired March 31, 2017. Our CUPE National Representative has sent a notice to bargain to the Town of Whitby.

The contents of the existing Agreement are in place until it is replaced with a new Agreement.
